Lake Tahoe Attractions Lake Tahoe attractions include the many mountain resorts providing a range of winter sports activities as well as summertime sightseeing, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. The lake itself is tailor made for boating, sailing, waterskiing, fishing, parasailing, swimming, and walking along the beach. Manmade attractions begin with the many casinos on the Nevada side of the state line. Bright lights aside, the lake does have a history and the homes of three families have become popular tourist attractions. Ehrman Mansion near Tahoma was built over a hundred years ago, yet remains the model for dreamers wanting to build palatial-like homes on the shores of Lake Tahoe, or just in their dreams. The Gatekeeper's Cabin Museum in Tahoe City showcases the lake's history, and Emerald Bay is the location of Vikingsholm, a model of Scandinavian architecture. First built in 1929, Mrs. Lora Knight occupied the house in the summer months with a staff of 15, and many guests. Her property included Fannette Island and Eagle Falls, the only falls emptying directly into the lake. Now a part of Emerald Bay State Park, this magnificent property is a must see for the historically minded. Whatever your interests, you can easily keep yourself busy enjoying the many Lake Tahoe attractions.
